Rumored AMD Radeon RX 5800 is Navi 12 with 256 Bit Memory Interface

So much excitement AMD brought to the table for gaming community with its latest RDNA Architecture based Navi 10 RX 5700 series graphics cards. These two RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 gave the hardest pricing punch to Nvidia’s midrange GPU lineup as a result RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super came out so quick in July 2019.

Previously, AMD’s exclusive graphics partner Sapphire filed patent names for its upcoming new RX 5900, RX 5800, RX 5700 and RX 5600 series products in eurasian patent commission database. Whole world jumped out of excitement and PC industry enthusiasts including has begun own speculation based on accurate information given overtime. So the recent speculation by 3DCenter was about whether Navi 12 is RX 5800 which is bigger brother to be for RX 5700 series or probably its smaller card compared to RX 5700 XT. However, they confirmed that 128 bit based RX 5600 family belongs to Navi 14 chips and there is no room for 256 bit Navi 12 to be a smaller card. Finally, it makes sense when RX 5700 series are still tied to older GCN architecture instruction code to run existing game titles and future fully fledged RDNA Navi cards will be completely different from current gen. Therefore, Navi 12 chips might be smaller card but powerful due to 7nm+ node that gives more efficiency and performance. In fact, according to 3DCenter argument, 256 bit memory interface might support up to 8GB VRAM and there is no way Navi 12 possibly be slower than current Navi 10.

Predictably, GDDR6 memory type will be used for 256 bit Navi 12 cards. Shader units are going to be between 3328 and 4096 units. Yet, the driver code suggests that Navi 12 possess slight differences to Navi 10. So, all these specs are translated into rumored RX 5800 series according to them.

All in all, RTX 2080 Super will have a worthy rival in pricing and performance. It is going to be RX 5850 or 5800 XT according Sapphire patent naming. Speculative TDP might be 250-300W design. Unfortunately, RX 5950 and RX 5900 XT are not identified yet through the open source linux drivers because RTX 2080Ti still doesn’t have equal opponent in high end segment.
