i5-3570 hits 4.21GHz Clock Speed on Gigabyte H61M-DS2 Motherboard and Cooler Master i70C Cooler

Intel used to make very good processors with high speed performances with reasonable prices from 2011 till 2017. Eventually, Ryzen series CPUs from AMD have disrupted Intel’s comfortable dominance these days. Way back in 2012, there was a decent Core i5-3570 processor with 4 Cores and 3.4 GHz base clock 3.8 GHz Turbo boost frequencies. Gamers could get this chip for $220 and call it the day because all AAA game titles could smoothly be played over 60 fps.

According to Intel, i5-3570 is locked chip that you can’t overclock to achieve better performance. Most interesting part of this news is that 4.21 GHz clock speed can be reached when you run Cinebench R20 synthetic benchmark software using Gigabyte H61M-DS2 motherboard. This testing was done by ToPowerPC user via Instagram. They commented that no overclocking method used and the system ran on all stock configuration. But latest bios from Gigabyte was used and the chip undergone delid process with liquid metal applied on motherboard. Skeptically, Gigabyte might be unlocking these locked older Intel Core generation processors perhaps.

Even though i5-3570 came with unpopular Thermal Interface Material (TIM) between Internal Heat Spreader (IHS) and CPU surface instead of liquid metal soldering. That annoying TIM delivered bad thermal performance compared to previous Intel Core generation which came with soldered IHS.

Therefore, enthusiasts started to do delid process by themselves and apply own after market liqiud metal like Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. Amazingly, delid process and liquid metal provided 20 degrees Celsius lower temperatures and Intel got a negative response from enthusiast for cutting cost on liquid metal. Finally, Intel listened to consumer market by producing soldered IHS processors but it was very late after Ryzen soldered chips gave the stiff competition.

Cinebench R20 overall score is 1075 and single core got 291 points. That is the amazing result for 7 years old CPU which is still viable for nowadays fast paced online games like PUBG and Fortnite.

All these results achieved due to also Cooler Master i70C budget CPU cooler with copper vapor chamber that costs below $25 in the market.
