Earthquakes caused by a volcanic eruption in Goma, a city near Congo’s border with Rwanda, are preventing tin concentrate shipments from the mineral-rich North Kivu province, according to the International Tin Association (ITA). Tin ore producers have not been given permission to export the material because government offices are closed, because Goma is not safe now.

The Bisie tin mine is located approximately west of Goma with established import and export routes. These routes do not intersect through Goma, and the export route is not currently affected by lava flows, but there is a possibility that Mount Nyiragongo volcano could erupt a second time.
