Shroud, Corey, MrGrimmmz, Paul’s Hardware & Linus From LTT Are Tested Their Skills Between 60,144 & 240FPS Gameplay To Find Out The Most Effective Refresh Rate And Frames Per Second

Recent video content from LTT (Linus Tech Tips) has attracted many viewers and gamers in choosing their FPS (Frame Per Seconds) performance produced by high refresh rate gaming monitor, CPU (Central Processing Unit) and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The objective research team powered by LTT and sponsored by Nvidia in order to find out the impact of high FPS on gamers using following test methodology including player’s practical assessment of reflexes, assessing raw reflexes, hit as many targets as possible in allotted time, kill fifteen bots as quickly as possible and player vs player whac-a-mole assessment.

Five players are tested using best case scenario for competitive gamers 240FPS System One with RTX 2060 Super GPU, Intel Core i9-9900K CPU and Acer Predator XB252 G-Sync 240Hz locked mode Monitor. Same players are also tested through representing middle ground machine 144FPS System Two consisting of GTX 1650 GPU, i9-9900K CPU and Acer Predator XB252 G-Sync 144Hz locked mode Monitor. Lastly, traditional 60FPS System Three also tested by five prominent players which contains GTX 750 GPU, i9-9900K CPU and Acer Predator XB252 G-Sync Monitor dialed at 60Hz mode.

Five famous players are the prominent gaming streamer Shroud, professional Overwatch player named Corey, Outstanding Twitch Streamer MrGrimmmz, PC building enthusiast Paul from Paul’s Hardware and Linus Sebastian himself from LTT media group that’s number one tech channel in YouTube. Primary focus on this test is to test player’s skills in each given FPS settings. Shroud has requested a cup of coffee but Linus media group have turned down his request in order to keep research as clean as possible without including any side influence affecting the test group.

Interestingly, Shroud said: “So I was actually really late to the 120Hz monitor change, so when I played Counter Strike I played on 60Hz because I didn’t have money when I was young, and all the top players had 120Hz with all new “new” right and I still was doing great sitting on 60Hz later swapped to 120Hz, honestly, it didn’t change that much so I do really think somebody played at 60Hz long enough they would play just the same as 144Hz player played long enough.”

Next legendary Overwatch player Corey plays at 240Hz monitor after converting from 144Hz and he claims: “60Hz to 144Hz is a huge jump like 70% improvement you immediately feel the difference and jump from 144Hz to 240Hz refresh rate gives you a smaller jump like 20%.”

One of the unique testing player is the famous Twitch streamer MrGrimmmz, who says: “I started Twitch (streaming) like 4 plus years ago, I actually started fighting games believe it or not and got into shooters (games) like a year later I just kind of basically roll the way all the FPS (first person shooter) evolution from like gems PUBG and all the games you know today.”

The fourth testing player is the professional enthusiast Techtuber Paul from Paul’s Hardware presenting himself with a bit of humor by saying: “I understand that I am representing certain class of gamers someone who builds more gaming computers than actually plays video games.”

First test results were somehow shocking because testing players were set to use 60Hz or 60 FPS PC setup without knowing for research purpose. They have to shoot on green dot once appears and it assesses the average raw reflexes. Fast player with reaction is Shroud with raw reflexes showing his input time is lower than others on 60Hz but he has slight improvement at 144Hz because as he said he started gaming career from 60Hz monitor. Average individuals here are Paul and Linus who are getting consistent improvement on every higher refresh rate. All in all, fastest player at 240Hz among 5 testing individuals is Corey with lowest raw reflex latency due to him being used to 144Hz and also 240Hz monitor.

Next test is double doors test to verify raw reflexes in actual game CG:GO where player must shoot quickly once bot appears in between the double doors. Every player gets consistent increase on killcount at each high refresh rate. For Shroud, Corey and MrGrimmmz the 144Hz setup is a sweet spot and 240Hz just gives extra positive results. Highest number of hits gets Linus and MrGrimmmz on 240Hz.

In Overwatch flick test, the players must hit the red dot target in one second. Obviously, Corey was the best in this test because he is more familiar with Overwatch game engine and he can use his accurate aiming calculation with a gun. Corey’s performance increased dramatically in 144Hz PC setup but has a little effect at 240Hz.

Average casual gamers like Paul can amazingly improve their gaming skills via 240Hz setup because both hardware and monitor are providing less latency to user’s reaction time.

Bomb side B defence Flow State Test demonstrates player’s fastest reaction time to a fast moving objects. Predictably, Shroud has managed to hit targets faster than others by getting lowest best time at 144Hz because he is verily adapted to this CS:GO game using his predictable calculations to where enemy moves around.

Last test number five is shooting gallery test where players shoot at each other with random given 60Hz, 144Hz or 240Hz setups. Shroud took considerable amount of time to set up his peripherals like mouse dpi and game settings. As a result, Linus on 60Hz vs Shroud on 240Hz competition illustrated that 240Hz setup gave Shroud the biggest advantage by winning with score of 5:0. However, Shroud also won the game on 60Hz monitor against Linus powered by 240Hz refresh rate with 5:3 point. As he said before, 60Hz setup was starter pack for him in the beginning of his streaming career and high predictable accuracy assisted him even on 60Hz setup. On the other hand, 5:2 score favored professional overwatch player Corey on his win using 240Hz monitor against Shroud’s 60Hz. Nevertheless, Shroud came out victorious with 5:4 score playing against Corey by utilizing 240Hz PC setup.

To conclude, MrGrimmmz streamer is a 60Hz king according to the results. The reason why he is so good at 60FPS because tuning in to the delays and predictable calculation onto delays help gamers to hit the target before it makes abrupt movements. Paul from Paul’s Hardware thinks that high specs hardware has a bigger impact on casual gamers when they play against professional ones at 60Hz and low specs hardware has less impact on experienced gamers because they used to play in in-game environment on high level in which raw reaction time is important. Biggest takeaway here according to Linus is that Shroud’s performance using 60Hz monitor but paired with RTX 2060 Super has shown better results rather than seven years old GTX 750, thanks to the faster rendering input of RTX 2060 Super with less delay even on lower refresh rate monitor giving 60FPS performance to your eyes. Best way to put all these Linus Tech Tips research efforts is the strong confirmation on player’s gaming performance dependency are the high CPU and GPU hardware specs to cut tremendous latency and input delay times by rendering the image quickly then sending to the monitor. Sweet spot monitor refresh rate is variable according to player’s reaction time but 240Hz specs is recommended to see moving objects more accurately to make precise shot.
